How do I start a legal career?
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU ARE STUDYING LAW
There is a misconception that when you graduate with a Bachelor of Law, you can kick off your Legal Professional career immediately.
The truth is, that you should start working in the legal industry during your studies, or even earlier. Once you get your foot in the door, you are opened up to a world of opportunities!
Here are a few things you can do/work towards whilst studying to set yourself up the best at the start of your career:
Start building your connections! Use digital platforms like LinkedIn, and attend events run by your university’s law society to connect with other legal professionals! This will introduce you to new people who will be good resources for you later in your career. You never know who you are talking to and where that person could be in 10 years!
Temping! By doing temp work as an undergraduate you will be able to try out lots of different areas of law. Law is an incredibly specialised industry, so use this time to figure out what you like doing.
Dress the part! It is fair to say that you should dress for the job you want, not the one you have. This may seem small, but how you dress can go a long way in establishing credibility in the legal industry.
Backing yourself with years of experience is how you set yourself up for your best future.
Whilst these can seem intimidating, the best way to get ahead on this is to reach out to a reputable specialist employment agency like empire group | legal eagles.
