Mental health is often treated in the workforce as something that only needs to be addressed when things are going wrong. And while crisis support is crucial, it is just as important to address mental health before things get to that critical point.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed today try one of these activities to help alleviate that anxiety.

1. Go for a walk- while it doesn’t seem significant, moving your body and even getting fresh air can do wonders for calming the mind and body. If you are inundated with work, walking whilst you talk on the phone can be a way to still accomplish tasks and aid your wellbeing.

2. Drink some water- the human body does not like being dehydrated. And whether we realise it or not, our ability to navigate the workplace can be directly impacted by our water consumption.

3. Do some breathing exercises- taking a deep breath aids in slowing down your fast paced thoughts. It can help rationalise what you are feeling and provide the clarity needed to take your next step.

None of these activities are grounding-breaking but focusing on doing even one can help give your mind some calm during peak times of stress.

If your stress is a part of an ongoing issue, reaching out to your manager or your company’s EAP program may be a good option to address things. If this doesn’t feel like an option, your needs are probably not being met in your workplace.
